The details

The GoldMix is a collective of professional freelancers working in the arts. We are videographers, designers, photographers, writers, editors, copyeditors, translators, and more. We use the term freelance loosely. We’re sole proprietors. We’re freelancers on long-term contracts. Some of us are on staff yet remain freelance at heart or on tax forms.

The GoldMix is a community. We offer guidance, show support, ask for help, and celebrate successes. The greatest value we offer one another is a sense of togetherness in a business role that demands a lot of aloneness.

Because our members are spread out, we offer support over the phone, email, and Slack. Eventually, our hope is to have live meetups and events. Pretty soon, we’ll host monthly workshops.

Requirements of Mixing

Mixers must be active in our community. Activity means something different for everyone, but the baseline requirement is joining Slack, trusting us with your questions, and offering support where you can.

Dues are a suggested $25, collected annually. If $25 isn’t doable, we offer a sliding scale and need-based financing. You can also sponsor another member by paying double dues.

How the Mix grows

All Mixers are seasoned professionals. Only existing members can nominate candidates for membership. Each year we set a cap on the number of new memberships issued in order to uphold the integrity of our intent. In other words, we’re growing, but taking it slow. If you know someone in the Mix and would like to be considered, please get in touch, and someone from the board will reach out.
